When a correction is needed

A correction is appropriate when published material contains a material factual error, misleading factual implication, incorrect attribution or other substantive defect that could change a reader’s understanding.

How corrections are handled

• Review the reported issue against the underlying evidence and current authoritative information.
• Correct the affected material only after editorial verification.
• Use a clear correction note when the change is material enough that readers should be told.
• Preserve internal audit history for publication-state and correction actions.

Updates are not always corrections

Developing stories may receive new facts after publication. A normal update that adds newly available information is different from correcting information that was wrong when published.
